your mineralogical data set; there are no more limits on your sample set

HSMQ combines the technological capabilities of FTIR
with Qmineral's expertise in mineralogical quantification.

HSMQ is a software tool that automatically converts FTIR measurements into mineralogical compositions. The real-time tool requires considerably less time than traditional XRD analysis, yet provides highly accurate quantitative data. Thanks to our optimised subsampling procedure and automated data processing, analysing a single sample takes only a few minutes — from rock, core, sand, or other material to mineralogical composition — and can be performed by a lab technician with minimal training.

  • Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) spectroscopy
  • Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR)
  • Turnaround time is 3-5 minutes
  • Low sample volume (< 0.5g)
  • Testing onsite or offsite
  • Minerals and organics characterization

HSMQ enables operations to reach quick and accurate results on an unlimited set of samples.

HSMQ can be utilised during drilling, in a core repository, or anywhere on site. The Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrum offers direct rock mineralogy analysis of a powder sample and is acquired from a compact, portable instrument. This technique enables faster, more efficient, and user-independent identification and quantification of key minerals and clay types at wellsites. It provides a quick and objective alternative to conventional mudlogging services.

*1 Gamma ray information available from well logging can be understood more thoroughly as it is directly related to mineralogy and TOC. In addition, HSMQ allows discrimination between geological layers where the gamma ray response shows no difference.

*2 HSMQ provides TOC data. The TOC allows you to identify the zones rich in Organic Carbon for more targeted geosteering and well placement.

*3 With HSMQ, the total mineralogical composition is available on the spot, allowing to distinguish changes in mineralogy while drilling. This is useful for properly identifying target zones (steering), identifying reasons for well instability, taking informed decisions about well completion design, rapid identification of scalings, etc.

*4 Certain clay types may affect wellbore stability, drilling efficiency, cause formation damage and may influence well completion design. Don't wait unnecessarily for expensive laboratory analysis for clay speciation. Performing HSMQ at wellsite can identify clay species on demand, allowing for faster decision making and cost mitigation.

HSMQ applies an easy-to-follow workflow enabling consistent FTIR measurements and results.

*1 Sample selection: Select your samples as you wish, no more limits on your sample set size.

*2 Sub-sampling: Select a sub-sample, dry it, and mill it to a fine powder as you would for conventional techniques.

*3 FTIR measurement: Perform the sub-one-minute FTIR measurement using the ATR module.

*4 Automated HSMQ interpretation: Let the fully automated HSMQ interpretation transform your FTIR spectra into key mineralogical insights.
